Parachutes

I jumped out of a plane without a parachute once. Well, actually I was attached to someone else who did have a parachute, but at least I can say I know what it feels like. ;): Smile!

Here are some quotes from Dave Winer about parachutes:

Two Days at Davos

“At dinner last night I told the story of my company and likened
the last year to jumping out of a plane with no parachute. One of
my dinner friends said that’s crazy. So I said OK, you have a
parachute. Later I thought about it and realized that there is
no parachute. Not only do you have to create the parachute while
you’re in free-fall, you also have to invent the damned thing!”

How to make money on the Internet

“It’s completely human to not want to jump into the unknown, so
being scared is OK, it’s rational. But inevitably change
comes, and you can’t take it with you. So take off the parachute,
forget what you know, and go ahead and jump. That’s where fun
comes. That’s what we’re all doing. None of us get out of this
alive. It’s later than you think.”

The thrill of the Web

“Guys, to me this is the thrill of the Web. On a personal level,
this is the jumping out of the plane with no parachute feeling.
You can see your reflection in someone else’s mind. Of course no
one likes this. Why? Ask me in a year, I’ll tell you. I’m working
on this now.”

Got any twinkies

“In past years I’ve done my most creative work in April and May.
Creativity is often shocking. That’s good. Art and war, same
thing. Upheave. Out the plane. Where’s the parachute? Oooops.”
