NPR: Bourbon Spill Kills Hundreds of Fish

In an interview with Pete Pfiefer on All Things Considered today, it’s reported that a fire, which caused hundreds of gallons of bourbon to spill into a newrby river, has caused the oxygen content of the river to drop, killing fish. Apparently the alchol itself doesn’t seem to kill the fish, but rather bacteria which are digesting the bourbon are using all the oxygen, which causes the fist to suffocate.
