CNN: Wrongful Death?

CNN is running a poll: “Today’s TalkBack Live viewer vote: Do we need a national moratorium on the death penalty?”

In the acompanying article: “Are death row inmates victims of an erroneous system? A Columbia University Law School study says serious errors occur in almost 70 percent of all trials leading to the death penalty. Of the 4,600 cases reviewed in the study, suppressed evidence, judges’ mistakes and jury bias were among the errors found. The study found an overall error rate of 87 percent in California, 52 percent in Texas and 18 percent in Virginia. These findings have caused states and members of congress to push for change. American Medical Association members are asking their organization to endorse a national moratorium of executions until all questions are answered, including the use of DNA evidence.”
