MSNBC: New Death Penalty Poll Released

In the last section of MSNBC.com’s article covering Graham’s execution:

“In a newly published poll Thursday, 57 percent of those surveyed think Texas has executed an innocent person.

Nevertheless, the Scripps Howard Texas Poll found that Texans continue to support capital punishment, with 73 percent favoring the death penalty. Sixty-four percent believe the death penalty deters crime, up from 60 percent last year and 50 percent in 1998. Twenty-five percent disagreed.”

People who believe that the death penalty deters crime should do some studying. Report after report has concluded that the death penalty has little or no effect on crime rates, including the rate of violent crime.
