My heart goes out to all of those who have lost family and loved ones today. Since waking this morning, I’ve been without words, and on the verge of tears. Today has been a tragedy.

In lieu of my own words, here are the words of some others:

“What do I tell the pilot to do?”
Barbara Olson, calling her husband Theadore, from flight 77.

“I can see it from my office window. It’s surreal… like a mediocre science fiction movie…”
Bill Seitz

“One of my coworker’s husband was at the base of the WTC when the first blast happened. He said there were burning bodies flying out of the sky. so he ran away very quickly.”
— ‘Bertie

“Still have not come to grips with this. I was about a mile away when the second building collapsed. I watched it but could not believe it. How much more? I wondered. When the Air Force planes started coming over the city, I almost wet myself.”
John Dunham

“I saw streams of people in business clothes walking home. I saw people planning to walk all the way up to the George Washington bridge and then across to New Jersey where they lived.”
Joel Spolsky

“There is, perhaps, no more enticing target than that which has been paraded in front of the world as invincible, and no people more likely to feel the sting of their own hubris than those who scoff at others. That is us.”
Grant Barret

“I really don’t want to do this anymore.”
Patrick Scoble, 7

“What better way would there be to do that than to not go to war in response… Postscript: As I write this at 7PM Pacific, I have doubts that I believe my own words. This may be the beginning of a war. If so, our dreams will be lost and hopes for the coming generations will go with them. The stakes are huge.”
Dave Winer

“I turned it up and started hearing that the towers of the World Trade Center were gone. I couldn’t imagine it. I thought this couldn’t be real; it’s like an episode of the Lone Gunmen.”
Wes Felter

“Pray that there will never be another day like today; that we’ll never have to explain another horror like this to our children — a task which I face… and the thought of which leaves me speechless.”
Mike Donellan

“Odd how we mull details like these to get a small grip on an immense tragedy. Right now I don’t even want food. Just details.”
Doc Searls

“I woke up today hearing Jeremy on the answering machine telling me to wake up and turn on the TV. I turned on the TV and saw a city with smoke just pouring out of it, and I swear the first thing I thought was, ‘Asteroid?'”
Adam Vandenberg

“This is the movie we’ve been hearing about. We’ve seen the previews and trailers, now we have to deal with the full-length feature.”
Adam Curry
