Josh Marshall quotes missing Reuters article

Josh Marshall, quoting an article in Reuters, UK: “The documents show that of the nearly 90,000 currently in the [Iraqi] police force, only 8,169 have had the full eight-week academy training. Another 46,176 are listed as “untrained,” and it will be July 2006 before the administration reaches its new goal of a 135,000-strong, fully trained police force.”

This comes on the heels of the assertion by Bush during the presidential debate and elsewhere, that 100,000 Iraqi police have been trained, and that real progress is being made towards Iraqi self-defense (implying that the U.S. troops can leave soon). This is looking less and less likely, and Bush’s assertions appear to have little resemblance to the truth.

Oddly enough, the article quoted above seems to have disappeared. If anyone has an updated link or more info, please leave a comment.
