About Me

I started programming in 1981 on the only Apple ][ at my junior high school. In the mid 1990’s, after nearly four years on the road as a professional rock bassist, I started my high-tech career in San Francisco.

I began my first blog (then called an online journal) on a self-made content management system in 1997, and have hosted my own sites ever since.

I spent 6 years in the early 2000’s as a lead developer at UserLand Software, one of the pioneering companies empowering individuals and groups to publish and share content on the Web, without the need for understanding HTML or JavaScript or how to run a server, without dedicated web development teams, and without needing to license and operate expensive content management systems.

In 2013 after 6+ years working at large technology companies, I began shifting my career in the direction of the Web and mobile apps, which along with personal empowerment and free speech are my passions.

Current motto:

“Have no fear of perfection–you’ll never reach it.” —Salvador Dalí
