UserLand: A Quick Update

I’ve spent some time over the last few days taking inventory, and reviewing ways to reduce hosting costs. It looks like it may be easier to keep things at The Planet, and consolidate down to one or two machines.

In the meantime, I’m helping move a few sites off the servers, most notably, which is still a pretty lively Manila-based community. They have a new hosting provider — a Windows virtual server, for about the price of a basic cable plan, and if things work out it may be a good model for keeping the core UserLand sites running.

More soon…

Ps. Typing this on my iPhone using my Think Outside Bluetooth keyboard. So glad I’m jailbroken. 🙂

Hey Jake! Say, suppose I offered to pay you to keep my Radio blog up at its location, so the inbound links don’t all break in 2010. I don’t envision new posts or new comments, just hosting. Is that even possible? How much would you ask? (I get very modest traffic.)

(By the way, thanks for caring for Radio’s posterity!!)

I’m still in the process of sorting all this out. Please stay tuned. I hope we can find a way to keep at least hosting “legacy” content, but may not allow publishing new posts. I should know more by the end of January.
